Fish Oil is a form of Omega 3 and the benefits provided by this product are outlines below:
WHAT IS OMEGA 3
Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are not synthesized by the human body, therefore being an essential nutrient that can only be obtained from food.
The 'essential' fatty acids were given their name when researchers found that they were essential to growth, and were not produced by the body. Omega-3 fatty acids are the building blocks of our cell membranes, pathways and neurological systems. They play an important role in many bodily functions and are essential for good health, most importantly the cardiovascular system.
Dieticians recommend eating oily fish or taking fish oil supplements in order to obtain the daily recommended doses of omega 3. The most commonly recommended are cold water oily fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel, anchovies and sardines and tuna. There are many other omega 3 food sources such as flax seeds, walnuts, tofu, and some vegetables. Flax seed oil actually contains 50% more omega fatty acids than fish, making it a great alternative for vegans and vegetarians.
HISTORY OF OMEGA 3
When the Inuit Indians were researched for their significantly reduced risk of heart disease, it was then that omega 3 fatty acids were discovered. It was found that the majority of their diet consisted of marine and fish foods that were high in omega 3. In 1996 the American Heart Association published statements recommending a greater fish intake as ell as omega 3 supplementation.
